The dive begins from a platform in a natural freshwater pool, where you’ll descend into the clear waters of Cenote El Edén. From there, the journey continues through a massive limestone gallery, leading into Cenote Coral, a breathtaking space with impressive dimensions. As your eyes adjust to the darkness, the tunnel’s shape becomes more defined, creating the sensation of flying through an enormous passageway before emerging on the other side.
Once inside Cenote Coral, an incredible light show unfolds. The diffraction effect creates rainbow-like reflections on the cavern floor, enhancing the surreal beauty of the dive. The walls, punctuated by cave entrances adorned with speleothems, add to the otherworldly scenery.
Contrary to the belief that cenotes lack marine life, this cenote dive is teeming with activity. Mayan Gobies, Cyclids, and turtles swim gracefully through the cavern, offering a rare glimpse of the underwater life in cenotes. The sight is simply breathtaking.
Upon entering the halocline, you’ll experience the temperature shift between the fresh and saltwater layers. As you pass through, the effect intensifies, the floor of glass transforms into the ceiling of glass, distorting reality in a way that feels almost dreamlike.
It’s an experience that might remind you of Alice crossing through the looking glass into her own Wonderland. Without a doubt, cenote diving in El Edén will leave you with unforgettable memories of your stay in Mexico.
Location
Cenote El Eden is situated 25 km south of Playa del Carmen. Cenote el Eden is one the biggest Cenotes where you can do cenote diving and snorkeling as well. It is situated just between cenote Cristal, Cenote Azul and Cenote Kantunchi.
At the entrance of the property you will see a small toll where we pay the entrance fees and take our diving bracelets. After a short ride of 3 minutes, you will reach the main parking and start your cenote diving adventure. Plenty of iguanas and colorful birds are waiting for us.
